![]() ![]() The following chapters are concerned with the supernatural and gothic elements in Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre starting with an introduction of Gothicism, its appearance and development. I likewise identify other types of Byronic heroes in Jane Eyre. ![]() At the beginning, the paper discusses the Byronic heroes in the two novels Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and their characteristic features as Byronic heroes. Special attention is paid to the metamorphoses of the Byronic hero in those novels as well as to the presence of supernatural and Gothic elements in them. This paper focuses on the interplay of romantic and Gothic elements in the two most famous novels of Charlotte and Emily Brontё: Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. In Wuthering Heights, although Catherine loves Heatcliff very much, she prefers to have a society-sanctioned marriage. ![]() Subjects such as class differences and gender inequality were explained. Secondly, we can see the social characteristics of the 19th century Victorian period in both of these novels. These events show it to be more bleak than the Jane Eyre novel. Futhermore, Heathcliff also saw the ghost of Catherine as time passed. In particular, the main theme of the story is the death of Catherine in childbirth, and Heathcliff's use of his own son for revenge despite Catherine's death. The general structure of the story is very dark and revenge oriented. On the other hand, There are also many gothic elements in the novel wuthering heights by Emily bronte. In the novel, Rochester's secret Wife, Jane to see the ghost of the dead uncle…These elements indicate that the novel is gothic literature. First of all, supernatural encounters, remote logaritma, complited family histories, dark secrets, ghosts, Jane Eyre includes a lot of elements. Here are the gothic features, gender and class differences in Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. They also tell their critical thoughts against the understanding of the Victorian era through the characters. We can see these gothic features in the novels published by the Bronte brothers who lived in the 19th century. Features such as supernatural events, ghosts, hidden secrets, revenge and dark emotions are highlighted. Elements of Gothic literature are overly displayed, especially in 19th century works. ![]()
